Below windows on summer nights,
A ragtime band harmonizes in alto and bass.

The chorus keeps rhythm with fiddlers,
To produce sharp whole notes that hang on grass tip.

They sing their blues and jive,
In high pitched timbre until it becomes a noisy chant.

Then the early part of day comes,
To quiet the ragtime players to humming a psalm.
