I kept a journal
All through the fall of '02,
although it meandered and wandered
and skipped days and
sometimes weeks too,
reading back, looking
at drawings I made in the margins,
doodles make me think of you.
You were a pretty child at four,
and will be a beautiful daughter evermore.
Many of my journal entries
were about days spent,
or weekends to come with you.
You have grown a little older
as children always do.
Moved to California with your mom
and brother too.
My best memories of that fall
are kept in a journal
on a shelf in the hall,
and though we are apart,
the pages of time
never take you away
from my heart.
