I got this inspiration for this poem when my friend's dad was driving us home.
Hitching a friend’s ride didn’t seem all too friendly,
though it was only out of mere courtesy.
The silence;
presence of a stranger edged a growing thought of formality.
Not even the amp of the stereo forgave itself,
of drowning out the awkwardness.

Desperate to seek a way out,
determined to track the darkness;
flickered lampposts slithered past my weary gaze,
bushes acting as shadows from the hidden.

Leaves appeared swaying against the speed of rides,
my eyes just kept following the trail of the journey;
without even a haste moment to settle down.
Colours of images lost light,
turned orange under the bright lampposts.

Tearing my gaze away from the shadows
I stared at the windscreen;
lampposts in front formed a guiding bridge.

My strength wearing off in seconds,
I mustered a last, yearning look-
past the boundaries of roof accesses and tall bridges,
the darkness continues to linger without a sign of fading.
The haze choking up the boundaries black,
hiding some unknown secrets beneath.
A darker shade masked my eyes-
not even outlines of images are visible,
as the shrill voice of silence continued its song.
