Very, very nice piece. Although you leave it up to interpretation, I'm going to assume that Patty was mentally ill and was so touched by the diary of a stranger that she eventually convinced herself that it was her life. However, I also think it's possible that Patty did know Katherine. Perhaps they were friends? Maybe Katherine passed and Patty decided to sew a quilt in honor of her friend?
I really can't describe how much I loved it.
One thing though, the line "As I remember, she laughed and smiled a lot, and even cried at times.” feels a little bit unrealistic to me.
You have excellent talent, and I look forward to reading more of your work.
