Awesome Story, I really enjoyed your imagery, you created a a strong sense of disease and unease. your choice of vocabulary gave your piece a poetic feel.Thank you for posting it.
I want to share a few points with you, however keep in mind to take with a grain of salt as I am in no way a professional, just a reader much like yourself.
I don't know if the wife is dead, has been dead from the beginning of the story, paralyzed, or just to stubborn to move... she is rotting from inactivity.
Regardless you created a great element of mystery here. As a reader i want details, is she dead? if so what happening? how did it happen? why is this husband keeping a dead body?
the character building you created for the husband character doesn't add to the story.
We know he works with his hands, most likely in a factory or workshop. He has been doing the same thing his whole life, but unstable. I get the feeling that he gets fired a lot. not well educated and not rich, i would lean to poor. but they have a home? they have nice things, but old... so at some point there lives just paused... a long time ago. so something happened, can, not being able to have babies unrail a life so much?
there could be something deeper.
All or this can be suggested in little details. like lets say he did kill his wife and his lost the plot, we can say "he rubbed his right hand knuckles absent mindlessly, lightly tracing his fingers along the wet, swollen bite marks earned the night before."
you never have to tell us what happened (like is a news/ police report), but suggest ever to gently using evidence of acts not act themselves.
this story would be so cool in first person, we get to she the events from a clearly insane mind, he him animating his dead wife with life of a delusional imagination.
It would sadly kill your poetic pose, i don't thing this husband character would speak as beautifully as you write.
