Every single time I read a great and overwhelmingly powerful horror story, I can't stop thinking about it for months. There are several masters of this type of narrative, Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, Neil Gaiman, William Faulkner, Lovecraft, and many others. Each and every one of them is a master of story-telling, and the sheer terror that they cause is just magnific, a true master's work.
Your story sticked to me. I can't stop thinking about it, and I am honestly having some trouble sleeping. It shares several resemblances with the kind of atmosphere created by Stephen King, but with a simpler, faster style. The mentality of a child is gracefully described, and the reader becomes, in time, a scared child.
The prophetic words in the end are just wonderful. It is truly a promise, so violent, that reaches the reader in a personal level.
This could easily be adapted to become a screenplay, by the way. Good stuff man.
