this sweet romantic poem attracted me and my review of it is for your WDC Account Anniversary.
Congratulations for being a dynamic writer at the WDC for another year. Have a lovely day.
This poem shows the depth and passion of the poet for her beloved. There is nothing she likes better than being close to this person all the time.
"I would know all of you
I would never let you go"
It sounds like sweet summer romance when the sun is bright and nights passionate.
However it seems like an everlasting love, for the souls of the two are committed to one another.
After reading this poem, I went to google Lizzie Velasquez and found some amazing facts about her.
Her courage to withstand staring and commenting is truly inspiring.
This poem is a wonderful tribute to this extra ordinary personality. Her ability to stay alone and clean her house and office during the corona pandemic is worth emulating.
This true-to-life poem shows how things changed with her when people realized her true grit and courage mainly.
"And their eyes cleared for a moment
(Seeing the beauty of your courage),"
At least they had the sense to recognize her beauty of courage.
Thank you for sharing. Imagery helps me to understand the way her life shaped up.
Children are so resilient and hardly know what sadness could be. But this little child, torn between separated mom and dad surely suffers because he would definitely want both of them in his life. yet, for various reasons things are not easy for all kids.
You have shown us that both parents love the child and spend as much time as possible with him.
The father's condition is almost serious as he has been suffering from a terminal illness.
you raise some curious questions about dreams, the new and old me and God in that order. They are thinking questions not mere surmises.
My review of this free verse is for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulations! Have a great day!
Dreams and the stuff with which they are made melt away if we naturally evolve being realists. That would open our eyes about the truth about dreams and self and God too.
You are right about the fact that there is but one reality, the reality of God and nothing else besides. Dreams dissolve, only He remains.
you are lucky to have a brook behind your house and that you listen to its voice perhaps everyday. Your detailed description of the brook's adventurous meanderings has me in thrall. I am sure it inspires pleasant contemplation besides creating delightful verses like you did.
"Where the sky is so blue
And the grass ever green"
This poem has remarkable visual images including those of nature and the world of man. The brook covered ups and downs as it passes through various levels of land. It is like the river of human life going through a variety of experiences.
reflections on nature are spellbinding. Each word picture you created is beautifully visualized by me. I can see what you mean when you felt that people should take time to listen to the music of nature instead of the blast of raucous sound and the mad dancing that goes with it.
You are right in saying that we should spend more time outdoors enjoying the various colors and quality life created for us.
"the sun on flowers and at rainbows arcing over a yard sprinkler and experience that sweet shiver of pleasure of all the things man did not create."
I cannot agree more. I feel the blue of the sky soothing to my sight and the touch of wind is pleasant to my mind.
I do feel like speaking to trees and flowers.
In fact nature wipes away fears of any kind like fear of regression etc.
I enjoyed this little vignette full of visual imagery.
this piece of nonfiction is a proof of your love and affection for the family. Christmas gathering at home is a great reminder of the bonds of love with friends and family. It is a great time to celebrate togetherness with the near and dear.
You have a fine view of looking at the children and finding similarities between them and those who departed.
" I see all these kids, including my own and realize that Dad, David and Angie are not really gone."
I think we should believe that everything that happens has a reason for it. That thought is consoling and takes away the edge pain and sorrow of missing departed members of the family.
Your final thoughts are sensible and soothing.
" As I get ready to leave, I see their pictures on the living room wall and smile. Comfort takes the place of pain. Joy takes the place of sorrow."
Language and style appeals to me. It is a well organized article.
Let me wish you a very Happy WDC Account Anniversary! Have a wonderful day.
it is a wonderful Christmas story. I could nor resist reviewing it. My review is for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulation on turning one more year at the WDC. Have a lovely day.
The main attraction for me in this heart-warming story is its descriptive power. Imagery you used is visual and spiritual as well.
"When it was time to start, Santa’s eyes lit up like candles.....Then Santa and the elves carried the toys out in sacks..... The stars twinkled in the cold night sky while the elves harnessed the reindeer, ...."
I found this quite interesting because of the attention given to details.
The way you split Santa and Mr. Clause is reasonable, for they serve two different zones of the earth delivering gifts to the children of both North and South hemispheres of the world. That is quite thoughtful.
this is a wonderful bunch of poems. My review is for the first poem "Fruit of labor". This is for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulations on completing another year at the charming WDC. Have a wonderful anniversary.
This poem is impressive. The metaphor worked well. Like the enjoyable sweet fruit, we reap the fruit of our ancestors' labor of love. Our roots count tremendously. We need to remember and respect all those people who have done their best to keep the river of life flowing smooth through countless generations.
"As if river of love crosses the generations"
The sweet fruit of the tree bears an invaluable vision of "love"
this free verse is full of enthusiasm and hope. Believing in yourself is what it is all about. Going on an adventure of writing different stories and poems sounds exciting. Nothing like artistic expression where emotion prevails.
This poem shows your way of processing your writing combined with a feeling of speeding it up.
"Tales of happiness,
Tales of love,
Tales of sadness."
It sounds like a literary feast.
The poem records the reasons and expectations behind the poet's return to writing again.
It was a wise decision to have the box instead of throwing it away considering it useless.
These mementos that carry memories pile up as the years pass by. One fine day finding time to look through we get a little confused what to throw and what to retain. Sometimes it is sentimental value and sometimes it could be association or a memory that could persuade us to keep that item back in the box.
"... has about the same emotional impact as looking at old photos made when the kids were little..."
Exactly!
Language and style appeal to me.
Imagery is visual. Sentiments win over practical reasons.
If this is an experience, it is very strange. There are reasons why you might be feeling out of touch with the surroundings that suddenly make their appearance. It could be a dense outgrowth at that particular place you were at that moment. It could be a place where there is dense darkness. And the rain adds to the gloomy quality. It could be a place where spiders were more and the briers grew in abundance.
But the appearance of the sky suddenly is a welcome break. Not only from the dark gloomy woods but also the tension created by the untimely walk in the woods.
Nicely described and narration appeals due to images of light and darkness.
Nature can create fear in the most unexpected manner.
Hi,
I like the tone and theme of love in this free verse.
Love is the supreme emotion and it plays a pivotal role in everyone's life. Life is short and if love is spread on it, it becomes memorable.
"Love conquers everything
It lasts for an eternity"
The virtues of love are poetically explained.
Imagery exploits the emotion of love and its supremacy in life and even after.
Your love for Christmas celebrations and the decorations come through clearly in this article on memories. Christmas a widely loved festival all over the world. Half the fun is in decorating the tree with colorful ornaments and shopping for gifts for the near and dear. Receiving gifts is equally full of joy.
Christmases spent with your grandparents and Fluffy are well described. I get to see the different decorations in the images you posted.
Another Christmas delight you have given me a taste of is gingerbread making and the grand lunch on the day.
I can see and appreciate how much you cherish celebrating Christmas with your loved ones. I am sure you will continue to keep the tradition on for future years too.
this is a moving account of memories associated with Christmas down the years. Your story tells a lot about love and the way it is conveyed through homemade gifts.
Home-made gifts are rare to come by and should be treasured. Your mom's people are obviously loving people and they saw to it that they send something special so you remember them for long. You showed the difference between expensive and homemade gifts.
The little girl's questioning is pretty reasonable and her mom's answer is convincing enough.
Christmas message that one should be happy at what God has given and then there is contentment. The examples given are apt.
I can visualize the pleasure you had chewing on the tangerine. It is sweet and sour if I am right. Taste brings back all the associated memories you have had on Christmas of long ago. Positive memories always bring on a smile that stays in for sometime. It sets the mood of the day and with a a happy frame of mind one can achieve a lot in a day.
This flash is well written. Language and style are easy and spontaneous. They take me along the tangerine road and made me taste it along with the those celebrating Christmas.
"I remember the warmth, the joy, the love, and the wonder of Christmas Eve spent with my grandma and grandpa every time I smell tangerines."
Absolutely so. Sometimes we become unduly over concerned about a small matter. It is the situation that makes it so. Anticipating to be out of job or the woman friend deserting you are all part of our apprehensions.
" I’m the newest one, so I’m the first to go."
We do jump to conclusions based on what we know. Well, at times they happen, due to what we do not know.
Very few people remain cool even under fire. That is unimaginable for many including myself.
Events in the story unfurl gradually according to the sequence in which they happened. I remember sometimes the day is packed with unexpected and often shocking things. sometimes, it is full of happy tidings. We don't get it, but that's how it is.
Nature's marvels are unnumbered. Everyday is a day of wonder. Everyday is fresh and fragrant.
This poem only assures that for those who can read there are "books in brooks and sermons in stones."
As the poet affirms in nature "true magic thrives." golden words of priceless value. If there is one place full of wonder it is mother nature. Anyone can feel her hand of solace, anyone can experience her healing touch.
The poet highlights the golden feature of nature that it is where "Miracles appear in the ordinary."
Blessed are those who have affinity with nature, a bond that brings nothing but pleasure and beneficence.
This short verse has attractive nature imagery.
It flows well.
This rhyming poem contains strong appeal to fellow citizens to wake up and take notice of the beginnings of anarchy in the country. This is a country built on time tested democratic values such as freedom, brotherhood and equality.
"America, land of the free, our shining city on the hill."
But the very unity of the state is being hijacked by the internal gangs.
It comes from the poet's heart, full of patriotism and dedication to the values that caused a nation to rise to the highest peaks of prosperity and generosity.
It is true that the world watches the tragic events happening in the country and is awe stricken and sympathetic. It shows the vital importance of a right leader for a country, for any country for that matter.
"Countries watch as we cry in a land of mystery."
In the recent months, it has become a "land of mystery" as well as misery, partly due to failure to meet the threat of the pandemic.
I appreciate the candid expression of the feelings of a citizen. It is an inspiring poem, a kind of waking call to those who remained indifferent through the alarming situation.
I am moved by this grief that you suffer from the loss of a dear one, whose love you miss desperately.
In an excellent free verse, the rhythm of which is in unison with your saddened heart, you conveyed your heartfelt feelings in a touching manner.
Personal loss is something that cannot be imagined or felt other than you. Yet, knowing the finality of death, one can make an effort to understand the state you are going through.
It is true that time can take away the pain, only the sharp edge. Otherwise, I don't think this loss can be ended.
Fine expression and apt word choices are impressive.
By reading this poem, I understand that there is no loneliness if you have strong faith in God. This faith makes us talk to Him, and timely help is sent if you can understand the patterns in which life happens.
With good thoughts and good occupations, mind finds solace and that peace stays in there forever.
"Just look above and above the horizon
Think beyond the the sky where the sun has risen"
This is a great path finder to happiness. We need to direct our sensory organs in a manner in which we are constantly occupied with spiritual musings.
This poem is well-composed with meaningful metaphors and images.
I can see that all those missing wedding anniversaries bring memories back and add a little more fragrance of love to life.
The reminiscing shows the happy times the couple shared and cherished. Having been committed to marriage, the couple should face the ups and downs in life. If they share feelings life becomes all the more enjoyable. No wonder the husband wears his feelings on his sleeve about his loving wife.
" It was you who kept us together. It was you who made us what we are."
Wife is indeed, a stabilizing influence on the family. She deserves the credit given to her by her husband.
The letter is well written in the style of reminiscences and traveling down the memory lane, he is shown revisiting a happy past.
"My memories are strong enough to carry me back in time, ...."
I really appreciate the points you made about prose and poetry. This review is for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulations and have a lovely day.
What I miss about the article is examples. Each aspect of a poem that you raised could be better understood and appreciated if there was an example of a line or two.
"Unexpected juxtapositions, linguistically linking two images that otherwise would appear to have nothing to do with each other can, ......"
Some of us may not understand "linguistically linked images" per se, but would definitely like to learn more about them.
You have given us a number of examples, yet ... you know what I mean.
Regarding Grandma's rocking chair, you showed the difference between describing it in prose and in poetry. Thank you for the fine analysis.
conclusion:writing poetry is not possible for all.
Hi,
this is interesting and a bit puzzling no doubt.
I wonder what brings you out in the morning when the paper boy arrives. After throwing away the newspaper, why would you go back to sleep?
It started only recently, how about the previous days. of course you wouldn't know those details. I mean no sleepwalking?
"But for the last week, it’s been missing."
You put a mini story together in a nice manner. It entertains and it is also realistic. The thought of fixing a camera is convincing enough.
An engaging poem mirroring change overnight.
The whole family had undergone change. Rather strange. Emotions and expressions overtook the previous contrary behaviour.
"My brother, so quiet, now loud"
The refrain added to the effect of the poem.
Free verse- its rhythm is clear. Words reflect the change.
"My father, the head, the top
Spins round and round and round"
Definitely humorous.
Imagery shows family members showing stunning changes.
