I guess I don't really understand all of the imagery here. I guess I just haven't had enough success in my life to really get the ending, but I really loved this part of your 2nd stanza:

The curious eye which had earlier asked
"Is she good enough to succeed the test?"
Is now replaced by an over-estimated "Yes".

I can taste that pride that you describe here and can feel the sense of accomplishment has shown in the people around you. It's a great image and an easy thing for any reader to relate to. Great stuff.
