I don't think that 'anything said in response' could replace a loved one. The emotional tone of this poem really depends on the amount of faith the reader has a that moment. One day I could read this poem and feel warm and positive about life, love, loss, and death. The next day I might just feel angry or cold and useless, just living another day because I have to. Nicely done, sorry if it represents the actual loss of a spouse which is highly presumable.
I Like the fighting sequences, the verbage is great, but there may be a few to many adjectives at some points, it seems a bit hot with flowy descriptions... almost like a candle that is burning with a unruly flame, or a pot that boils over the sides, keep it below the rim and you'll be butter. Nice Job
