It sucks losing someone you care about to bad decisions, I know it. I really enjoyed this story because I've recently had a similar experience. Always wondering what was going through their minds, but you're right, only they'll know and we won't ever. It's hard, but reading this gives me hope. I'm also healing.. slowly, but surely.
