Writing about one's self (oneself ?) can either be silly, or dreadful, or funny, or some combination of all those. Truthfulness can be painful, especially if it's really true! One thing about memory loss, which I prefer to call "fading", is that it can wipe out all the bad stuph and and highlight the good stuph. Unfortunately, it can also flip it around, losing the good stuph and only keeping the bad.
To stay on topic, that being a review <g>, you did a masterful job of venting your feelings without sounding really whiney. I am a masterful whiner and recognize it in others.
I am 60-something and I'd love to be around when you reach that milestone. Good job!
Keeping in mind that the author was venting, this was good. The rhythm was a little bumpy in places, and I was left with some questions. What was the relationship between author and the old man? Is the author male or female? Did the author leave these questions to the reader? I am female and had a terrible relationship with my mother, so this writing was easy for me to personalize. Good job
