This is excellent and very interesting. I see some themes emerging already, like the thirteen sigils (what are they, are there only 13, can anyone learn them?), and why is everyone looking for land – has something happened (obviously some wars, the Campaigns)? Presumably it’s left the villages devastated so they need to find new plots.
We need to know whether Callard’s soul is in the wolf or in the sword. Whether Atherston is married to a giantess, or a she-bear or what. Whether Caspian revenges his brother when he grows up (and perhaps his mother – she seems unlikely to survive). Whether the villages see through Malachi, which they must eventually, and what happens when they do. Who is in charge of the armies that are fighting? Why are they fighting? Do the common people know? How long have these wars been going? Who’s winning? Is it good that they are winning?
BTW, the phrase is “Raze it to the ground”. There are other little niggles, but they give the writing an interest and uniqueness which I don't want to spoil.
Very spooky, I really enjoyed that. I want to know what happens, and WHAT'S IN THE RED BOX?!? Hopefully, you've written more of this, I will go and look.
In the meantime, good characters, even the ones only mentioned in passing and an excellent storyline which keeps you interested. I already miss Moira, and feel a pang at her (presumably) inevitable death.
What a sad story. I nearly cried. You've caught the tone of an old moralistic tale perfectly but it's still a fresh and new tale, and I'm not sure of the moral! It's excellent writing though, I hope you have more stories on here.
