I like this very much. There is an overlaying sense of mystery and, well, to use a great Russian word, toska. I also like the almost mythological aspect of this. It reminds me of the stories my mom used to read to me out of our bedtime stories book. I really like how you ended it with "it was silent, it was sweet." Very poetic.
