I have to say that were I live I wouldnt ever have been witness to a serious war or a country devastated by war but your description here made it very easy for me to visualise.
I love the line "Only to create a path with many holes" and I loved "Then creating governments that have short lives" both of these lines are easy to read but with a very powerful feeling behind them.

Ill go read more of your stuff now, Im intrigued*Smile*

It is easy to see from the poem that you were in love and enough to let go. I love the lines "would giving up what we have now Lead to a happiness that would last?

I liked it nicely written, deeply impacting.
