Coming from a millennial who thinks that they hate kids, would never have their own, can't possibly see why people even have kids... This poem touched me. It did not suddenly change my mind, make me want to start decorating the nursery. But it made me think of my own mother, how my mother must feel towards me. It makes my heart ache because I can only hope that I feel even half the love that she feels for me. This poem has opened my eyes. I need to go tell my mother that I love her.
Thank you.
I greatly enjoyed your short story. As I was reading, I could feel the different emotions that the narrator was going through. When she was anxious to see her parents, then slowly losing faith in the whole process, then (surprise!) her parents showing up just in the nick of time. It was nicely written. The only thing that I could find to be an issue (and this is just for me, personally) is that before halfway through the text, I knew that her parents weren't going to show up until the very last second, after she had already given up on them coming. I do not know if it is because of the way the story is written, or if I have just read this type of scenario many times before, but it's not that big of a deal. The story was still enjoyable, it evoked emotion, and honestly that's all that writing is about.
Cheers!
