I like this story, a lot. I like memories, and the sharing of them, and I think in our society we are often too busy to stop and share our stories with others. I have made an attempt, over the past few months, to record my own childhood memories, but I changed names and places so that I could remain 'anonymous'. I am not trying to 'advertise' here - but if you're interested, my external site where I've collected a lot of these memories is 'armadillocreek.blogspot.com'.
What attracted me to your story, in the first place, was the name "Uncle Ed" - which I use as a pseudonym on my site.
You did a great job of describing the 'essence of the moment' .. Little details like the particles of dust floating in the air, and the stacks of Geographic on the porch, the linoleum flooring. In my own analysis, this area is one of my weaknesses, and I could do well to learn from you.
Thanks for sharing your story.
