It is a nice story, but I can't help thinking that it is too scary, as anyone who knows the least bit about a praying mantis will know that the female eats the male of the species, and indeed the clues that you leave throughout the story, make the story a thriller. My suggestion is that as a kid's book this is too scary, but this would make a good children's horror film. Dress the mantises in prosphetics, but make the mantis world a spin on our world, then change the ending, so Mattew's either killed or he learns the truth and runs away to live with a male friend, with whom he has found true love or something
like that. Write on!
This is as near to perfect as it is possible to be, short sweet and to the point, you obviously show a love of dogs and an understanding of breeding. This should be read by any dog breeder or dog owner, indeed anyone who has ever felt the slightest of connexions for a dog, as I myself do not own a dog but my cousins own 2. They used to own this lovely black and white dog called Freddie who I felt a great bond with until his untimely demise last year, your story has helped me cope, I thank you ever so much for writing such an insightful story.
