This short piece is a vivid and gripping blend of the ordinary turned horrifying. The opening lures the reader into a false sense of comfort with its relatable setting—a workplace break room and the universal joy of finding unexpected treats. The protagonist’s delight in the saltwater taffy is described so effectively that you can almost taste the sweetness.

However, the twist into horror is where this piece shines. The visceral descriptions of the candy turning into "pure, liquid wax" and the protagonist's struggle are masterfully unsettling. The imagery is sharp, evoking a strong sense of discomfort and dread as the story quickly descends into chaos. The contrast between the initial excitement and the grotesque outcome creates a powerful and memorable impact.

This story showcases the writer's ability to build tension and surprise in a very short space, drawing the reader in and delivering a shocking, well-crafted conclusion. It’s a darkly entertaining read that leaves an impression, blending mundane familiarity with horror in a way that is as surprising as it is effective. A chilling and creative tale!

This poem, Above and Below, masterfully captures the balance between opposing forces—nature and humanity, past and present, light and darkness. The repetition of "Above and below" creates a rhythmic, almost hypnotic refrain that underscores the duality explored in each stanza. The imagery is vivid and expansive, taking the reader from storm-tossed seas to ancient ruins and deep forests, each setting evoking a sense of awe and mystery.

The poem's language is rich and descriptive, with phrases like "the storm’s wind like a siren’s call" and "ruins are strewn, tossed awry" painting evocative pictures. There’s a dreamlike quality to the transitions between scenes, emphasizing the interconnectedness of above and below—both physically and metaphorically.

The third stanza brings a shift in tone with its serene, introspective imagery, grounding the poem in a quieter, more personal moment. This contrast deepens the impact of the poem's message about the interplay between what is seen and unseen, known and unknown.

The concluding line, "Things are very different now," adds a poignant reflection, suggesting change, perhaps loss, or a shift in understanding. It leaves the reader with a lingering sense of curiosity and wonder.

While the poem is beautifully written, it could benefit from slightly more clarity in certain transitions to fully connect its thematic threads. Nonetheless, Above and Below is a compelling exploration of the eternal dance between opposites, drawing readers into its atmospheric world with elegance and depth.
