This engages me from the start. Makes me keep reading, looking for a the next thing. The Christmas theme, unexpected at the beginning, holds it all together. The way you treat "adopted" at the end leaves a lot unsaid and unknowable. I like that.

A good story. You effectively set the scene that leads to wanting and finding a better way. Wisdom wins over might. It says a lot in three paragraphs.

I really like this story. You develop it well. The characters are believable and so is the plot in the world in which we now live. The surprise ending is a big surprise but also believable. You make me want to have copy of that book.
