1 hour and counting! |
The Duma in Russia talked about a Third World War now Ukraine has fired US missiles. In the OstSea (Europe) they have damaged fiber optic cables again. My brother is talking about storing water and keeping cash in the house in case the internet and electricity are down at some point. What do you think? These are difficult times but what does it mean? Storm in a glass of water or really dangerous? |
The Doomsday Clock (set by the Science and Security Board of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists) has been sitting on ninety seconds until midnight for the last two years. This is the closest the clock has ever been to midnight. Our focus may be on Ukraine at the moment, but ifvI might direct your attention to the other two rings. First, there is the forcible reunification ofTaiwan with mainland China. Meet the Press had an excellent war gaming episode on this matter: https://youtu.be/qYfvm-JLhPQ?si=SNNTM5ktnzqhY5lv Another scenario to consider is a nuclear 9/11. FBI assessment is that lack of security on the US southern border has increased the likelihood of a second 9/11. One scenario to consider is nuclear terrorism. The outcome of such a scenario is presented below by William Perry, Secretary of Defense in the Clinton Administration https://youtu.be/SUuOskX3z7U?si=v_qdZDIJMp58XVzV Hyperbole aside, I couldn’t tell you if the next administration will move us closer to midnight, further away, or maintain the status quo. I suspect anyone who tells you one way or the other is looking through an ideological lenses, and not with real events. That being said, there’s no harm in putting away a few non perishables and bottles of water for “common” disasters, such as prolonged power outages due to weather. |
We should remember that WWI and WWII started long before the USA joined the Party. Europe, Asia, and the West Pacific were at war for a good two years before they dragged the USA into it. WWIII started in earnest four years ago. If you haven't got your "Go Bags" and "SHTF Kits" ready, it may be too late! |

Donations welcome |
I think I am losing it. Two days in a row it's not going according to plan. Still, 3 hours for 1235 words, so it's doable! But my mind is turning into a blank. I am a pantser so I make up the story as I go along (within the boundaries of PREP). What can I do to make sure I get into that flow again? Any suggestions? |
See if asking yourself "What if..." (like Prep says to do) about your characters or their situation sparks anything new/interesting. You can even try to do it for 15 minutes like Prep says. It works wonders for me. Most of what I come up with is junk, but there are always gems in there. There's the Adoption Society section of the NaNo forums. They have all kinds of ideas people "drop off for adoption" that you can use. Unlimited people can "adopt" the same idea and you can adopt one, change it, or later not even use it. But there's lots of interesting ideas free for use in sections like Adopt a Subplot, Adopt a Comedic Scene, Adopt a Character Quirk, Adopt a Tearjerker Scene, etc. Go to the NaNo forums and search Adoption Society to find those threads. Check the NaNo forums for Dirty Tricks to Increase Word Count thread. It not only offers suggestions for how to increase your word count, but you may find ideas that you can work with for now until you get your mojo back. Maybe you can go deeper into describing some of your scenes or you can write a part of your story from another character's perspective, even if you don't end up using it, you'll have the opportunity to explore things in a different way that may help spark new ideas and get you writing again. Best of luck! |
Got a playlist? Listen to it. Is the MC taking the scene in a different direction? Go with it you can always change it in December. The focus is write forward never backward. So get words down and most important LOCK THAT INNER CRITIQUE IN A BOX AND SHIP IT TO THE MOON! |
