For every viewer, reader, reviewer, nominator, nominee, finalist, winner, voter, judge, and friend — thank you.

For most of my life, writing has been more of a quiet survival instinct than a skill worthy of celebration. Writing's always been how I've made sense of the world when it didn’t actually make sense to me.

To be recognized by my peers for something that's always been so personal—so vulnerable—is overwhelming. I rarely post accomplishments on the Newsfeed because I feel awkward hyping myself up and don't ever want to come across as boastful, elitist, self-centered, or arrogant. There are so many gifted writers in our community that are so talented and deserving of recognition; I don’t take these accolades for granted. I won't cherish these awards because I think I'm the best, but because I’m grateful that this community sees value in my craft, sees value in me. And being seen—actually seen—is the best gift I've ever received.

For every writer scribbling in notebooks at midnight, I see you. For every writer wrestling with blank pages, I see you. For every writer wondering if their stories matter, I see you. And I'm here to tell you that they do matter.

You matter. So, so much.

So, to my mentors, my peers, my readers—thank you. And thank you to every character who’s ever whispered their truth in my ear and waited patiently for me to get it right. We did it, guys!

This isn’t a celebration of personal accomplishment. This is a celebration of storytelling itself—the messy, magical, and maddening art of attempting to translate the human experience into ink on the page.

I hope I can live up to the kindness of this moment and inspire others to share their love of storytelling.

Thank you. A million times, thank you. Write on!
