I posted this note on August 19, 2024 "Note: I live in an American suburb that would be the per..." Yesterday, the wife of a dear friend notified me that he died in August of last year. Coincidence? She gave me no details, no exact date, no cause of death. He had survived a heart attack a few years back and both of his parents died very young of cancer, leaving him and his brother to figure out life on their own when they were in their very early twenties. His death hits differently because we were at one point very close to get into a serious dating relationship with the goal to spend our lives together. We had a lot in common, but he lived in Hamburg at the time for university and I was in Berlin. There are also some things in both of our personalities that would have led to us separating very quickly had we endeavored a relationship. Although we never figured out how to be a couple, we had a deep appreciation for each other. He had moved his life to Dubai while I had moved to the USA. In 2017, we achieved to be in Berlin at the same time and we met up for lunch. I never thought that our goodbye hug was going to be our last. He was married three times and has two sons with his second wife. |
I guess one has to be happy for what others bring into our lives. However, your words evoke sadness. No date, no cause, and months later... I remember 1990 when my mother nonchalantly mentioned that her brother had died. I remember thinking "and when did you intend to tell me". This familial insouciance has been repeated many times since. To be blunt: when you die I want to hear about it! I'll be dead 20 years but I'll still want to know. |

Task 11 in "12 Days Of Christmas 2024" |
Watch This! 1 Happiest Season one of my sons made us watch this movie because he wanted to tell us something about himself. 2 The Holiday Kate Winslet bumps into my husband's chest during the Christmas dance scene. (He was an extra and had the perfect height for the scene.) 3 The Chronicles of Narnia second son and I watched it together when it was in theaters. He was so small that he sat on my lap. 4 The Polar Express (2004) the moment when Santa flies up to the giant Christmas tree and thousands of voices sing O Tannenbaum gives me goosebumps. 5 Bad Santa he's a mall Santa and he is baaaad! R rating deserved. 6 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Harry has his first real Christmas ever. 7 A Charlie Brown Christmas is just so wholesome. 8 The Nightmare Before Christmas is whacky, fun, and iconic. 9 Die Hard no Christmas movie list is complete without it. 10 Gremlins a great reminder that pets make terrible presents. Task #10 in "12 Days Of Christmas 2024" |
Sum1's Home! - I haven't watched that movie. Or at least can't remember watching it. If you think that it should be the top ten list, you have to decide which other movie has to go. |
Annette - I've never seen this one, (I've seen 7 on your list), but in my eyes, Bad Santa has to go. Why? Because Christmas is all about happiness (and finding the good in others (IMHO)), and that movie is not about that. |
Partridge In A Pear Tree: Jeff is the one member here on Writing.Com who touches everyone on the site aside from the site owners. As the host of the official contests, he is available to answer questions for anyone. Besides this office, he has shown time and time again that he is a champion for creativity in the many ways big and small that he interacts with others. Jeff is a gifted writer who can whip up a compelling story that makes you want to read on. Jeff sends many very helpful reviews. Jeff is generous with his time and knowledge. Jeff organized an off-site fundraiser for a member who had (through no fault of their own) ended up in an untenable situation. Jeff runs the annual Write-A-Thon that never fails to generate hundreds of thousands, even millions of gift points, for the chosen groups. Without giving away details of his private life, you have to know that Jeff has chosen to take on some of the toughest tasks humans can undertake for no better reason that it's the right thing to do. He is a true partridge in a pear tree. Task #1 in "12 Days Of Christmas 2024" |
