Did you know that Americans eat 46 million turkeys each Thanksgiving? *Shock2* What is your guilty pleasure food?

Guilty Pleasure Foods

My mother ascended into the spiritual realm on Thursday, November 29, 2012, one week after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving 2013, was my first Thanksgiving without Mom. I spent it alone eating all the Thanksgiving foods that Mama liked. I had a turkey drum stick, which I cooked in the Microwave. In addition, I had dressing, which I also fixed in the Microwave, a turkey gravy--out of a can--a can of cranberry sauce, an entire Marie Calender's pumpkin pie, with Cool Whip, and several carafes of coffee. All right, maybe I should have gone to one of the Casino Coffee Shops. In the coffee shop I could have purchased a well balanced Thanksgiving dinner (green salad usually comes with the meal).

One of the things I's grateful for is that Mom and I were able to share her last Thanksgiving together. Thanksgiving 2012 wasn't a big feast. We had turkey, dressing, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie (Marie Calendar's of course). We watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, which my mother loved. I haven't watched that parade since 2012. I don't watch the Thanksgiving Day parade because, without Mom, the parade isn't as much fun. Mom always loved to watch the floats. Another parade she like to watch was the Rose parade; I haven't watched it in a while either.

Coffee, chocolate, pumpkin pie,
Tacos, and cheese stuffed Jalapeños
These are my guilty pleasure foods.

Write a list of five things you are thankful for. That’s it! You are free to make your entry as long or short as you choose.

Each day I compose a Gratitude List of five things I am thankful for, because gratitude is an attitude that helps me face the dtests and difficulties that regularly confront me. Gratitude is an attitude that assists spirituality and help deal with material reality. A daily list helps to refocus both the mind and soul on the positive aspect of physical life on this mortal plan.

Gratitude List for Thanksgiving 2018

Today I am grateful ...

Peripheral Vision--In what ways do you think your peripheral vision is important? Has what you’ve seen through your peripheral vision ever helped you? Have you ever used your peripheral vision for poem or story writing ideas?

It's possible I have written a poem about peripheral vision. I haven't used it in short stories or novels. The only time I consider my own peripheral vision is when I go for a eye exam or when I catch a shadow out of the corner of my eye and look in that direction.

Out of the corner of my eye,
I see a shadow flit,
but when I turn to stare
I see nothing there.

Ripples

Every day
ripples flow
outward from the Word of God
that was dropped into the sea of humanity
by Blessed Beauty, the Glory of God, Baha'u'llah.

Ripples flow
and across Earth,
and nine-sided temples are built,
“dawning-places of the praise of God”3,
that welcome all humanity, all religions.

SeaWorld. Good? Bad? Ugly? What is your opinion of zoos and aquariums?

As long as zoos and aquariums do a good job of educating the public about the animals in them, I have no problem. Zoos and aquariums are supposed to be educational tools that give information about the creatures, their lives in the wild, and how to protect them. I don't like seeing animals in cages that confine them, and don't reflect--in some small way--their natural habitat in the wild.

"Zoo animals are ambassadors for their cousins in the wild."
Jack Hanna

In 2012, I wrote "Incident at a Roadside ZooOpen in new Window., Terzanelle, using the word prompts: Tiger, artist, witnesses, and zookeeper. I don't remember which contest I wrote it for. Anyone reading this poem, may think that I don't care for zoos. This isn't necessarily true, the zoos I dislike are the privately owned zoos that are well overseen by animal control, the SPCA, or a wildlife expert. Animals in zoos need humane treatment. Many of the wild animals in zoos, today, have been bred and raised in captivity, which means there is little chance that they can be returned to the wild. Therefore, we need to treat them with respect and care because we, humans, are the ones who took their ancestor out of the wild.

As I’m sure you’re aware, November is NaNoWriMo and the site is abuzz with novelists typing furiously to reach their word count goals. What motivates you to write?

What Motivates Me To Write?

I have prayed, contemplated, and meditated about this question numerous time over the years. I have come to the conclusion that I have no choice. I have to write! It is a compulsion, an exigency, and an imperative of my soul. It is the way my mind comes to terms, copes, heals, and learns to let go of the wounds that come between humanity, my spirituality, and me. Below is one of the poems I have written about why I write.

The compulsion to write poetry
does not fulfill my body's needs
nor sate my desire.

When I am in the arms of the Muse
food is moldy leftovers,
sleep is a discarded lover
at the door of my consciousness;
shelter is the rusted husk of a topless convertible
in an Oklahoma snow storm;
and sexual satisfactions
is a stale cigarette
in the mouth of my libido.

Write a thank-you letter to God, Santa, Thanksgiving Turkey, Pilgrims, Indians, or anyone else you wish. Tell why you are thanking them and how much their support has helped you in your life.

Letter to Baha'u'llah

O Thou Glory of the All-Glorious, thank You for the blessings I have received through Your revelation from the All-Glorious Creator of the Universe. Thank You for Your willingness to spend forty-years in prison for nothing more than proclaiming the unity of humanity, the unity of God's numerous names, and the unity of the foundation of all religions.

O Thou Pen of the Almighty, I will eternally be grateful to God for guiding me to You and to the sacred books that were revealed to You by the Holy Spirit. Each time I read a dew drop from the ocean of the Word of God, I find a deeper meaning or a pearl of wisdom that inspires my poetry.

O Thou Glory of God, I know that some of the poems I write do not always reflect the spiritual side of my human nature. Forgive me! I am learning to use my free will to chose good over evil, and, sometimes, my ego's fears overcomes my spiritual nature. I believed that it is a poet's duty to spotlight the injustices of the age in which she lives; I, also, believe that it is a poet's duty to creatively shine a light on the superstitions of the past that prevent humanity and the individual from achieving their full materials and spiritual potential.

Baha'u'llah, Thank You for the inspiration to write. Thank You for helping me to overcome my fears. Thank You for helping me to let go of the past. Thank You for helping me to forgive those who have wronged me. Thank You for helping me to forgive my own weaknesses. Thank You for forgiving me when I let my free will chose evil over good. Thank You for the adversities, tests, and difficulties that have shown me my weaknesses and how to overcome them or turn them into strengths.

Yours Always,
Neva F. Darbe

Writing Forgiveness

Forgiveness
is a place inside:
an alcove where my soul resides.

Is forgiveness
a verse I can't write
in my ego shrouded night?

Forgiveness
is a verse I must write
before my soul can wing it flight
into the garden of divine forgiveness
where I can feel the love of the Almighty.

For those of you in the US, this week is our Thanksgiving holiday. Write your blog today as yourself in the future. What will you thank yourself for doing? Who and what else are you thankful for in your life?

Gratitude Is An Attitude

"Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity..."
Bahá’u’lláh4

"Gratitude is an attitude", I'm not sure who said that. I've heard and read this quote numerous times over the past several years. I've found that "Gratitude's Attitude" applies to every area of my life under all circumstances. Baha'u'llah encourages us to show and express gratitude under all conditions, which makes sense since gratitude is a spiritual attribute. Gratitude for what we have makes facing adversity, tests, and difficulties easier. It, also, helps us to see beyond the present situation or problem to find a solution. If we can't see a solution, gratitude helps us to put the problem in God's hands.

I attempt to make a gratitude list everyday in "Writing in SnowOpen in new Window.. Sometimes I have difficulties finding five things to be grateful for everyday, and, when I do, I increase the number of items on my gratitude list the next day. I used to make a gratitude list once a week, on Thankful Thursday; however, I find it easier to find five things a day to be thankful for rather than ten things once a week.

What would I thankful for in myself in the future? At 71, I'm not worried about the future. At this point, I'm more interested in daily survival, paying bills, rent, and avoiding an overdraft in my checking account. Today my checking account isn't overdrawn; however, it will be after Monday or Tuesday. I can't contact either the Bank or Cox until Monday. There is nothing I can do about it today--this is my own fault--I will continue to pray instead of worry. Worry doesn't help find a solution; however, prayer does.

What will I be doing in the future? Practicing an attitude of gratitude, praying, writing, and surviving. I can find a solution. I have to refocus my mind on something besides the problem, because focusing on the problem only increase worry and distracts from finding a solution. What I would really like to do is move into a senior community; unfortunately, I can't afford the cost. I can barely afford where I'm living now. I will move to a smaller apartment because the new owner of the property I'm living at will raise the rent. The one bedroom I'm moving to isn't any cheaper. Since I've managed to make this entry into a partial rant, I'm going to list the things I'm grateful for before I finish.

Gratitude List

*BulletV* I am thankful for the prayers revealed by Baha'u'llah.
*BulletV* I am thankful for the prayers revealed by The Bab.
*BulletV* I am thankful for the adversities, tests, and difficulties that have strengthened my faith and taught me about myself.
*BulletV* I am thankful for the still small voice that whispers to me after I have said a prayer about a problem I am attempting to solve. The voices says "It's going to be alright!"
*BulletV* I am thankful that I am learning to say "No".

Only 66% of 18-24 year olds in the US are certain the Earth is round. Thoughts?

What shape does the other 34% of 18-24 year olds think the Earth is? Is this 34% members, or potential members, of the Flat Earth Society? Does this group think Earth is shaped like a Rubik's Cube? Have they ever gotten off their smartphones long enough to look at the horizon and watch the sun rise or set? Did this 34% fail science or astronomy class? I don't think they come be from another planet, because they would have noticed the shape of the Earth from the flying saucer or whatever means of interstellar or interplanetary transportation they used to get here.

Do you know what the scariest thing about the 34% of the 18-24 year olds that "question" the shape of the Earth? They are votes, or potential voters! These are part of the generation who will be running this country for decades to come. If any of them get into a political office, America will be screwed worse than it already is. If they don't believe that the Earth is round neither do they believe in climate change.

At 18, people are old enough to take responsibility for their own opinions. They are old enough to ask questions about the things they were taught by their parents and other adults in their lives. One of the problems is lack of critical thinking being taught by parents or in the schools. However, a person can learn to think critically, after they leave home or graduate from high school. It's difficult to learn how to think critically later in life, but it isn't impossible. Individuals need the right incentive or epiphany of some type to begin an independent search for knowledge.

Have you ever had a lucid dream? What was it about? If you could control your dreams, what would you want to spend your dreams doing?

Most of the time, about 95% of the time, I know that I'm dreaming. The dreams that I remember have some sort of significance--either spiritual, educational, or creative--to my waking life. I've found, through meditation and prayer, that even the nightmares have something to teach me. I don't worry about the dreams I don't remember, because I don't think they are significant.

"I beseech Thee, by the potency of Thy will and the compelling power of Thy purpose, to make of what Thou didst reveal unto me in my sleep the surest foundation for the mansions of Thy love that are within the hearts of Thy loved ones, and the best instrument for the revelation of the tokens of Thy grace and Thy loving-kindness."
Bahá’u’lláh5

That is the second paragraph in one of the morning prayers revealed by Baha'u'llah. I can access this prayer through the Baha'i Prayer app on my smartphone, it's the third prayer under the Morning prayers, so when I wake up I don't have to turn on a light or find my Prayer Book to read the prayer. I can also access Notes on my phone to write down the important aspects and/or symbols of the dream.

When I interpret my dreams, I first look at what the symbols mean to me. I write that down and, if something is still unclear, I check the traditional meaning of the symbols online. Some of my dreams I have written about in "Dreams of Snow Open in new Window..

It's time for another prompt from the War Chest! Take a stab at this one:
Share your first experience with love. No ... not like that.

I remember the name of my first love, it was Tommy Joe. I was around six at the time, and in the first grade. For some inexplicable reason, my mother let me name my youngest brother after him. I think Mom let me name my brother because I ask her if I could name him. Even though I don't remember what he looked like, I still think fondly of my first love.

"If you do what you really want to do, you feel like you're playing." - Stan Lee (1922-2018).
Stan Lee passed away yesterday, Monday November 12th. What is your opinion of superhero movies? Were Stan's stories a part of your life?

I remember reading superhero comic books. I remember watching superhero shows on television. I've watched some of the superhero movies, but not all of them. I see nothing wrong with reading about superheros, watching them at them on television, or watching them in a movie theater. Superheroes are part of the American--and possibly the world--entertainment culture. I see them as enjoyable, escapist entertainment that shows both the best and the worst of human beings.

Stan Lee was a creative and influential individual, who found a way to make a living doing something he enjoyed. His talent consisted of entertaining a lot of people, while giving hope to a few people. Stan Lee was an ordinary man, who found an extra ordinary way to escape--at least for an hour or so--from their mundane existence. His talent encouraged many young men and women to develop their own talents through graphic novels, comic books, and movie making.

According to Wikipeda, Stan Lee6 grew up in a Jewish family. In 2002, when someone ask him if he believed in God, he said: "Well, let me put it this way... [Pauses.] No, I'm not going to try to be clever. I really don't know. I just don't know."7 So, his spiritual path was that of an agnostic. Whatever his spiritual path, he practiced his chosen profession with such joy and reverence that it could be considered worship of the Almighty.

In every photo I see
of Stan Lee
he is smiling:
the sign of a man
who enjoys his work.

"A ship is safe in harbor, but that is not what a ship was built for." - William H. Shedd. Reflect on this quote in any way you choose.

I like this quote. It's a good Motivational Monday quote. It's encouraging and encourages a person to think about both safety and work. When I think about the safety part, I realize that there isn't any real safety in this world because even a ship in a harbor can be destroyed by a hurricane or a tsunami. People can do their best to make life safe, but accidents, human caused disasters, or natural disasters happen. If we worry about what could happen, we cause ourselves more problems and the things we worry about rarely occur.

One thing I never worry about is moving, which I should. If I worried about moving there's a good chance I'd never have to move again. However, since I don't worry about it I end up moving; I hate moving. Right now my ship is in the process of moving from a two bedroom apartment to a one bedroom. This means getting rid of a bunch of stuff, I haven't had room for since I moved out of the three bedroom house into the studio apartment. I drug it from the studio, to the two bedroom, and now I'm moving to a one bedroom. I have to get rid of the stuff because there isn't enough room for unnecessary stuff in the one bedroom.

It's a beautiful day
to sail away
some place nice and warm.

One thing good about the one bedroom is the air conditioner can blow both cold and hot air. The one in this apartment has only cool air. Cool air is alright for summer, but not for winter. In autumn and winter it gets cold here in Las Vegas. It could have gotten below freezing, I don't know because I haven't checked the temperatures and I don't want to check them. I really don't care to know if the temperature dropped below freezing before winter solstice.

"Fighting in Yemen city of Hodeidah reaches residential streets"8

The cease fire, demanded by Yemen's allies, is being ignored by the nations Saudi Arabia backed government. Fighting has moved into the streets of Hodeidah, putting more of Yemen's citizens at risk of death through because of collateral damage, lack of medical care, and starvation. Since 80% of the aid sent to Yemen comes through Hodeidah everyone in this country is at risks of famine.

The grain mills, south of this port city, were taken by pro-coalition troops on Saturday. According to the UN spokesperson in Yemen, the mills contain about "51,000 tonnes of wheat"9. So far, shelling had not damaged the silos, but the production of flour has stopped. Ali Reza Qureshi10 says: “We hope production will resume in the coming next two weeks as we get 21,000 tonnes monthly from those mills. Otherwise we will have to import wheat flour.”

Bodies in the street,
and citizens on the verge of starvation:
all humanity suffers when one fragment of it suffers.

The international community is planning to send food assistance in an attempt “to avert mass starvation”.11 However, if food assistance is, for some reason, prevented over 14 million people face death because of famine.

Humanity is a single species,
humanity is an interconnection race,
everyone on the planet is threatened
when part of the species is threatened.

I am not going to refer to the fighting in Yemen as a war because it is only one of the battles occurring the the twenty-first century version of the World War that has been fought on Earth since World War I. The battle in Yemen will eventually end. The question is "Who will win?" Will the citizens and humanity win or will one of the governmental factions win. If the latter is the case, the factions will continue to fight each other, while killing more civilians than troop casualties.

The "Blogging Circle of Friends Open in new Window. prompt for DAY 2183
November 10 is National Forget-MeNot Day. Use this day or the flower to inspire your blog entry.

I am a Forget-Me-Not,
a Myosotis,
Growing in a garden plot.

A Forget-me-not is a beautiful and delicate flower. It is either an annual or a perennial species. It is said to be the tears of a maiden weeping for her love a knight, who slipped into the water of a stream and couldn't get out because of the weight of his armor.12 That is a tragic and romantic story, which fits the look of the Forget-Me-Not.

The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's ParadiseOpen in new Window. prompt for Day 1790
Sunday is Veteran's Day, let's honor the men and women who have served by mentioning either someone you know personally or a poem, a simple thank you letter, it's your blog you know what will work the best.{ Thank you to all the men and women who have served or are serving.

Veterans Day or Armistice Day marks the end of World War I.13 Today it is dedicated to remember the veterans of all the wars America has fought since the end of the First World War. While we are remembering the veterans who returned from war and served in the armed forces on America soil, we, also, need to remember the families of these men and women. We mention the sacrifices that veterans make, but we seldom mention the sacrifices their families make.

Do you consider blogging a form of personal essay writing? How are the two the same and different? Today, spend some time researching how to write a personal essay and, if you choose, take a stab at writing one of your own!

Is blogging a form of essay writing? Yes and no. I know that sounds like a paradox or a cop out, since blogs can cover any and every topic, its the only answer that makes sense to me. A blog post can cover an author's business, political beliefs, religious beliefs, hobby, life events, or anything else that strikes the author's muse. A blog entry can be formal or informal, like a personal essay. It can be written using any voice or point of view, although it is better to use a first person voice because readers are more likely to read, respond to, and follow one that uses a first person voice.

I recently posted a personal essay in "Memories of SnowOpen in new Window. "The Last Time I Saw My GrandfatherOpen in new Window. giving one of the reasons I don't like open casket funerals. I prefer to remember a loved one, friend, or acquaintance as they looked in life rather than as they looked in a casket. This is, also, the reason I don't like going to "viewings of the body", and will avoid it if I can. While I don't intend to offend anyone, I think that open casket funerals and viewings of the body are barbarous.

I remember my Grandparents funerals, and the viewing of the bodies. When I was younger, I attended viewings of the body of the deceased. At one of the viewing, I don't remember which one, I had an epiphany. I looked at the face of the deceased, and realized that something was missing; that was not the person I knew before death. The facial features were the same, so it was the right body. It just that something was missing.

After leaving the funeral parlor, I went home read a prayer for the departed and meditated on the subject. The thing that was missing was the person's soul. The soul had ascended into the spiritual realm and left behind the body, the shell of its material and physical existence. Now if I go to a viewing or an open casket funeral, I will sign the book and talk to the family, but I won't look at the body.

Did you know? *Magnify* The veins of a blue whale are so wide, a 3 year old child could swim through them? *Shock2* Spend your blogging time today thinking about size. Scale is important in writing - how do you use it? If you're up for it, try examining something extremely small and describing it as if it were the size of a car. Can you get your readers to guess what you're describing?

“Don't Panic.”14 Size is relative. To human being a molecule is small, but to an atom a molecule is gigantic. Size is just a point of view, that is determined by the perception of the observer. A good example is the size of a spider, to most people a spider is a small eight-legged "bug". However, to anyone suffering from arachnophobia--and I know this from personal experience--a spider (any spider) is a huge eight-legged monster out to get them. Once I stop panicking, and realize that I am truly larger than the spider, I can find a weapon of some type of eridacate the monster.

Right now, I am reading The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, which is huge compared to the regular Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is huge because it contains five complete novels, a short story, and an introduction written by Douglas Adams. The wonderful thing about this book, besides being funny, is that it gives the reader some hint as to how large the galaxy really is compared to the size of the Earth.

So, “Don't Panic.” Grab your towel, because all professional Galactic Hitchhikers carry a large towel with them, and thumb down a flying saucer. Once you are aboard, ask the pilot or captain to take you to Ford Prefect. Ford Prefect is the roving reporter who updates the Hitchhiker's Guide and this Guide sells better than the Encyclopedia Galactica. The Encyclopedia Galactica, is larger and more expensive than the Hitchhiker's Guide, but it doesn't always give all the information a Galactic Hitchhiker needs. Which goes to prove that bigger is not always better.
