"Prompt: Have you ever gone through a time in your life where you didn't feel like your prayers were being effective? Looking back at that time, do you see now how God was still working in your life?" I think we all go through times when we feel our prayers are ineffective. I personally believe that a lot of the reason people's prayers are not answered is because they are selfish prayers. God is not selfish and I do not think He likes it when we approach Him with a to do list that has nothing but our own needs and wants on it. I do not believe God spends one second thinking of what is right for Himself. I believe He is always thinking of others and that our prayers should reflect that "otherness" mentality. Confess our sins then pray for others. Do not ask God to pay our bills or take care of some pain we have. Allow others to pray for you.
