Review of Choices
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: 13+ | (3.5)
"Choices" is a tale about parents and their son, Billy's off-planet schooling, which apparently the parents cannot afford. In order to afford the expenses, they decided to enroll Billy to work in the mines. Then, a letter arrived that tells of an accident in the mines. The mother became sad and sorrowful as Jack asked, "What? What's happened?"

This is a tale of regrets, and possibly a chance to blame each other for the possible death of Billy. In a tale such as this, we feel the sadness and possible regret that the mother felt while her husband, still unaware of the meaning of his wife's tears, wondered. The ending actually brought to the reader the meaning of why "The doorbell rang. It was never answered."

Review of The note

"The note" is a short tale of one who felt a heavy burden of shame: for all his lies, which he called "white lies", and for missing to visit "your grave". As I reviewed this work, I realized that the man carried a burden of "pain in this irony that I deserve"; that he realized how much he missed his wife; that "I've missed coming to see you since the stroke."

It is a sad story of one man who now realizes his enormous failure to love his wife.

Review of Hidden secret
Review by elephantsealer

Rated: E | (3.5)
"Hidden Secret" reminds me of how one person can no longer keep a secret; and so out comes the truth. Somehow, a sort of a revelation becomes the truth of something that has become a secret that can no longer be kept hidden...

This short tale is cleverly written as I reviewed it...

Review of Indifference
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: 13+ | (3.5)
"Indifference" reminds me of a lot of things that happen between two individuals: the quietness between them, when neither she nor he would say something; just one little word that would break the darkness that comes between them should have been enough to start a decent conversation. However, neither had the strength to utter a word; neither thought of the love that was once theirs to enjoy; neither had the strength to be humble...

It is such a pity that two people become strangers; just because neither had the nerve to say: I love you...

"Thought for our Time" is God's call to one and all, to unburden ourselves of the heavy loads of fears/chaos/worries/hunger that have become blocks in our life. God offers us to "Seek" with our "heart for the peace" that would give us stability as well as "find rest unto your souls". It is a promise and a redeeming grace and "all you have to do is ASK".

This is a loving and sincere call from God; and there is no reason at all that we should not heed it.

Review of The Monkey Snored
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (3.5)
"The Monkey Snored" is a short tale about "Monkey", who "slept soundly" even as a "shadow hadn't crept closer..."

What and why is "Monkey" sleeping in a darkened cave even as a "murmur in the dark bounced of(f) the wet walls"? The Monkey continued to sleep soundly, "arose grumbling", with irritation; however, Monkey "fell back to sleep" even as a "murmur became a shadow". This short tale does leave us wondering why and what is "Monkey" sleeping in a dark cave? And why "Monkey" was not even disturbed about a shdaow that crept closer to him. However, as a reviewer we realize that this short work was written to scare and to plant a suspicion, nontheless, in the reader...

Review of Famous Last Words
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: 13+ | (3.5)
"Famous Last Words" is a short tale of "Carrie", who told her mother the bad word uttered by her father as they took a ride in an amusement park that "resembled a Ferris wheel".

As I reviewed the story, I realized that children learn more words from parents than from school and/or other children. It was a new word for little "Carrie"; however, it was a word she never heard before; and the first thing she did was to run to her mother. Either "Carrie" was glad she now knows a new word or that she wanted her mother to know that she has learned something new for her vocabulary.

Review of Our House

Is the short tale of "Our House" telling us that a married couple "spent over fifty delightful years together" in "Our House" as long as they did not fight over about making changes in their house? It is indeed a good tale of a happy marriage; and my thoughts are it is something terrbly needed as long as we should or rather must endeavor to achieve in our own lives...

I would not want to be Ben or with "Ben", even if it is an adventure into the wild, as per the short tale of "Ben's adventure". This short story relates "Ben", who got terribly tired being an apprentice, and therefore decided to earn "decent money" by collecting "Barramundi" baits for fishermen. As he waited for baits to bite, he realized he did not really know what he was getting into when he started the job. Did he know about the "ancient crocodile" "at the bottom of the river?"

Review of The wheel
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (4.5)
The author of "The Wheel" created a tale of woe and laughter through the image of a man, whose anger manifested itself with "red in the face". It is a story of a plain, nutty mechanic and a car owner whose ire of "shoddy work" practically burned with anger.

As I reviewed it, I realized the growing anger, "very red in the face", in the car owner's face as well as a silly mechanic's reply to the situation. I realized as well that the mechanic tried very hard to conceal the fact of his "shoddy work" through a lot of pretentious words...
In the real world, I would call this a very "explosive" situation.

Review of Minions
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: 13+ | (4.5)
"Minions" is a tale of hatred; a boy's hatred for his parents for taking away his Xbox. Day by day his hatred of his parents grew more intense until one day he found a way to build strange, killer minions. His plan to get rid of his parents came to fruition when he was not allowed to go to Pete's, to play video games.

Why, in heaven's name, would a boy hate his parents so much because he was no longer allowed his Xbox, to the extent he planned and made "minions" to kill his parents? Indeed, this tale became such a fearsome story; a strange tale of a boy, who became obsessed with hatred... Would a child really become demonized with hatred because of the loss of an Xbox?

I wonder if the author wrote about this boy? Is it to warn parents of the consequence of "heavy-hand control over their children"?

Review of Hawaii's LAHAINA
Review by elephantsealer

It is such a tragedy when a wild fire burned and destroyed towns and landmarks in Maui as per sthe author's, "Hawaii's Lahaina". It is such a pity Maui became "a wasteland of destroyed towns and landmarks"; a pitiful calamity that is caused by a wild fire.

I understand how difficult it is to understand why a wild fire becomes the cause of Maui's destruction; however, we can all emphatize with this unwanted calamity that brought Maui's community with the loss of "at least 36" lives. There is hope, I am sure, that the community will find a way to heal itself...

Review of Dreaming

"Dreaming" tells us of a dreamer of "words" and not of images and of pictures. It is indeed interesting to read how one is "I am nothing" because "Without the words that form my dreams..."

This work of art is a revelation to me as a reviewer because I, like others, do dream of images and pictures; however, in my waking hours I do come up with words that would give me reason to believe that my dreams are naught but a representation of all the thoughts I have during the day time... Interesting, indeed...

Review of The Party
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: 18+ | (3.5)
Every now and then we review a tale of a person who tries to be a grown up; much like the story of Charlie in "The Party". Of course, we arrive to the conclusion that we can handle such a grown-up attitude. However, things do not really fall into place as we would like it to be. And then we find out that things do not really as quiet or as tidy as per our thoughts. As a result, we become like Charlie, frustrated and almost practically killing ourselves to show that we are indeed an "adult".

This tale is a vey good example of a youth trying to be a responsible person. We sympathize with Charlie, of course; however, we are faced with people who are not and would not behave like normal human beings... In the end, we blame Charlie for trying but become utterly angry as a result of an unexplained party...

It is a beautiful way to celebrate someone's as a nephew showed up to take her to a party celebration...

Review of Destiny
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (3.5)
"Destiny" is a short look at what "romance/love" is. It seems a dream-like picture of how two individuals, possibly young and perhaps a first experience of what love/romance is. It is almost a dream-like look at what happens when two people fall in love... Feelings of doubts and dreams of joy seem to go hand in hand; however, feelings of tomorrow, a "beautiful chance" of "a pure heart and soul" are expressed with hope...

In our young minds, we sometimes dream of one day finding a partner in life, even as we grow through youthful experiences of doubts. However, there is that bright light of hope that gives us a feeling that love is the bright light that would strengthen our feeling of love and trust for another...

To the writer of "Philippines: Battling Nature's Fury": this is such a grand "tribute" to the people of this land; and I join you in letting the people of this far eastern land of the many ways they have stood up to the challenges of nature. There are many more islands and people who have gone through weather conditions, and still go through, a number of challenges in the way of nature; and I also believe that a tribute to their grit and strength to survive "nature's way" is one way to give them hope that the "unity that binds them together" is a tribute to their tenacity.

All good wishes to the author,

Review of Mr. Dog
Review by elephantsealer

"Mr.Dog" is a short tale of "Marnie", a girl who decides to leave home, and a dog that she adopted as her own. The unfortunate "breakdown" of the bus she traveled on caused her to sleep in a "refrigerator carton in a dark alley". When she awoke, she found she missed her bus; decided to rent a room in the "quaint village", and adopted the dog that licked her.

There are reasons that made "Marnie" to leave home. However, with a dog as company, she settled in the village; and called herself "Onelucky girl".

"Death Doesn't Become You" reminded me of the many times I have attended funeral services. It was always a very sad time, not only for the people connected to the dead, but also for those who attended the services. Although "Angie" was heart-broken with the passing of her "Thomas", in her grief she felt the presence of her beloved "Thomas"; and that is all she needed, really, because she knew that she would have "Thomas'" love that will be hers forever...

When "The plumber" is written about, we always get that feeling of disgust; that we have done something to block the usual good working of a toilet bowl. Nevertheless, in this short tale we find not disgust but hugs, a Ruby ring, and tons and tons of laughter. Here's hoping there will not be any more toilet blockage for the author...

"My breast cancer experience" connected with me because I have a daughter who went through an operation to remove her breast because of cancer. Not only that but my husband has been through millions of cancer treatments for the last many years, and is still going through such treatments. I therefore understand this piece of writing, and I commend the author's feeling of her "world was tilting on its axis."

Knowing of cancer gives a feeling of a never-ending doctor's appointments, going through radiation, getting tested for all kinds of pills in order to get rid of this malignant disease. It is also a very disturbing point to members of families. I therefore understand the very point of this piece of writing; and hope that all will turn out better for the writer. As always, we have to be brave and remember that better and newer medicine to at least remove cancer from the physical body. And also remember that doctors are always looking for the right medicine to help with the cure of this most malignant disease.

To the author: if you need to cry, do so; but look up and listen: there are people who have been cured of this disease. All you need is presence of mind and understanding, that the medical world is there behind you...

It is refreshing to review "Do You Want to Fish or Catch?" because it reminds me of stories I have read about grandfathers and grandchildren. This short tale tells of a grandfather and a granddaughter, of great wishes, and of future fishing adventures. There is love between the old and the young, a love that makes life interesting, a fishing trip that binds two individuals through going fishing.

Review of THE CRAZY DREAM
Review by elephantsealer

"The Crazy Dream" is all about dreams, which touched the lives of "Jack" and his "wife, Amy". Sometimes we do dream and realize that our dream has something to do with what happened between two people; and whether or not our actions during the waking hours become part of our thoughts as we sleep. Do we believe that maybe the things that happen between two people become part of a deep thought that becomes a dream...? We wonder...

The author of "Why Small Businesses are Better" writes about the differences between a large business versus a small business; and seems quite certain a small business is the best as opposed to the large business. In some ways, a small store may be better than a large one; however, there are times that a small shop does not have, nor carry, what a buyer needs. So the buyer naturally ends up at a large shop. Small shops do not offer "sales" as compared to large shops. There are larsge stores that are peopled by curteous and accommodating sales persons; and they carry more commodities where one can have a choice. I believe, though, that today's large businesses are promoting a more person to person dealing because people have learned to go shop where they have received better goods, good customer service, and high quality goods...

Review of Too late
Review by elephantsealer
In affiliation with SENIOR CENTER GROUP
Rated: E | (4.5)
Is the author of "Too late" showing us through this tale that it was too late to plan a visit to a family member whose health has been failing; or is the short story showing us our failure, inability to show love or prove our love to a brother "in failing health"?

It is indeed a question of whether or not we have love towards a family member who is mentioned as "failing" in health as well as our inability to act as quickly as possible to visit the brother, who as a member of a family, should have been visited days before the "virus got there first", to show our deep love to a member of a family. There are various reasons we fail to show our love to a brother/sister/parents/or whoever just because we are too busy...
