The book is a collection of recipes from Native Americans in different regions of. North America. Some of the recipes allow for cooking with modern appliances, while others are recipes designed for outdoor preparation (which includes wild game and flora). All are accompanied with background notes and stories. | ||

Dale Carson was a member of the Abenaki tribe. Her initial interest in Native American cuisine stemmed from her husband’s interest in colonial reenactment. This expanded into two Native cookbooks and a regular column. | ||

In and of itself, it’s a great cookbook with unique recipes. But it’s also a great insight to Native cultures. | ||
