Summary of this Book...
The Henna Artist is a very well written book of family dynamics and self-inflection that takes place in India. I was intrigued with the cultural lifestyles of the different castes described and the way people interacted (or didn't). We are made to view Lakshmi's position as a henna artist to be glamorous and almost magical for what she offered to her clients. But later the reality of her profession is realised by Lakshmi, when it touches too close to home. The Henna Artist is a brilliant account of how relationships develop and change, how social status affects those relationships and determines one's actual position in the eyes of others.
I especially liked... | ||
I found the changes in the relationship between Lakshmi and Radha quite stark. I enjoyed how characters were developed much through dialogue.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
I definitely wanted to read the second in this series.
I recommend this Book because...
I recommend this book to others, because it is well written and draws the reader into the lives of the characters presented.
