This book is a microscopic look into the world of chess but most importantly a world of chess with children. written by his father Josh navigates the chess board, moves, and learns the game. He is extremely gifted and also enjoys playing. As his skills improve month by month Josh eventually competes with better players and finds himself entering tournaments for children. These contests are intense. Parents and children battle for the win n while upholding the rules. Josh learns from talented and knowledgeable teachers, rehearsing moves over and over, playing against stronger players, and reading books and other materials about chess. Near the end of the book, Josh enters a champion tournament that evokes the adrenalin rush as the reader takes in the details of this story. Yje suspense grows until the final match is won.

Readers who enjoy biographies, memoirs, real-life stories, sports board games, and chess especially will enjoy this book. Anyone curious about competition or children would possibly want to read this book. It gives a general feel for playing chess on a tournament level and insight into how the game is played which gives a curious person insights to decide if they want to further explore this game.

The ending is very, very intense like watching a horse race or ball game. The reader can't help but be glued to the words and rooting for Josh to prevail.

I liked all of the book, but had to focus to be sure I didn't miss anything. Reading about the moves if you have no idea how this game is played might require a little research to understand what is required.

This book has reignited my interest in continuing to learn to play this game.

As I read this story I felt like I was living the scenes and events with Josh and his father. I could imagine the action, and characters, and see vivid views of their lives as they navigated the world of chess.

Josh's father told a wonderful story about his son and how he learned the game, excelled at playing this game, and entered many tournaments between the ages of about six years old and about nine years of age.

Anyone who likes action and adventure, thrillers, sports, real-life stories, and learning about the world of chess would enjoy this book

Anyone looking for a feel-good story might be disappointed even though it has a nice outcome. It also shows the rivalry between players so might be difficult to read about because this involves children.

I enjoyed this book. Reading this story showed me how intense competition is during chess tournaments. It also highlights what these boardgame athletes go through to achieve the very best level of playing they can accomplish. Hours, weeks, months, and years are invested i learning and working their way through the ranks.
