This book doesn’t say it’s written for kids, but somehow believes fart humor should be employed regularly.

The plot is kind of neat. In said world where the MC (Whizzfiddle) lives, the profession of Wizard requires you to complete contracts with people wanting to hire you for wizardly work. This is how you keep your membership to the wizard council.

The MC has failed to keep any contractual obligations and is threatened with losing his membership. When this happens, you are no longer allowed to practice magic unless you go to the underworld. I did not make it to the underworld, unfortunately. I DNF’d the book before that happened.

To complete his contracts, he interviews a bunch of people, finally settling on a group who was transformed from their original forms to something more...hideous. The handsome prince is ugly; the giant is squashed into a disproportioned dwarf, etc.

So, "a quest of undoing" is literally a quest to battle the wizard that transformed them and "undo" the transformation.

While this should have been awesome, spoiler alert: it was not.

Published in 2015, this book is riddled with problems, chiefly, 'the gays are a joke lol lol lol". Like, groups of dudes worried the gay is going to get them, or the gay man likes them, or the gay man. Gay-bashing under the cover of humour is still gay-bashing and I have no idea how this is considered funny.

Additionally, every wizard must find their element. The element is thing that allows them to do magic. For some, it's dirt; for others, it's ostrich poop (that is not a joke, friends. Yes, insert all the poop jokes here, and don’t let up!). For our MC, it's beer. Let the alcoholism funnies ensue!! Unless you don't think alcoholism is all that amusing, in which case, I’m right there with you.

Also, this reminds a lot of the Harry Dresden series, but without any of the grittiness that makes Dresden readable:

-Our wizard finds magic exhausting
-Our wizard doesn't really want to wizard
-Our wizard is forced to wizard about things he doesn't give a wizard about
-Drunk
-the underworld sounds awfully similar to the concept of the Dresden "NeverNever"

DNF’d at 29%.
