Summary of this Book...
This is the third and most recent installment in Harris' fantastic "Gunnie Rose" series and earned "editor's pick" on Amazon for "best science fiction and fantasy." I have loved this series from the first book. I do recommend reading the series in order. The series portrays an alternate reality where the United States no longer exists as it was, Russians control California and Oregan, Mexico controls Texas and Oklahoma and more. There's less technology and more danger, thus the need for gunnies (professional armed people hired to protect property and travelers). This book starts with a cryptic message and ends up going full speed from when Lizbeth (Gunnie Rose) decides to break her Eli (aka Prince Ilya) out of Russian jail and travel from her home in Segunda Mexico (her area is a combined area of Texas and Oklahoma) to The Holy Russian Empire's capitol (CA). There is a host of action and plenty of twists and turns that held my interest. In the previous two books, there were certain lines Lizbeth didn't cross. Period. In this book, Lizbeth has to reevaluate her ethics system or risk Eli rotting in prison (or worse). Lizbeth's sister Felicia plays a greater role than in the previous book and I am hoping there will be future books with her and maybe starring her.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like fantasy, mysteries, action, suspense, royalty, family drama, magic, alternate realities, excellent characters and/or a bit of non-traditional romance.
I especially liked... | ||
All the good characters, especially Lizbeth Rose, Eli, Lucy and Felicia. Felix started to grow on me in this book too. I loved all the action and suspense and that I just didn't want to put the book down. It was nice to be drawn so fully into the story that I felt I was living the action.
I didn't like... | ||
There were a few things that were just unbelievable, even with magic and incompetent security but I still enjoyed the book greatly.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read more! Sadly, I haven't even heard that there will be a fourth book but I hope there will be.
This Book made me feel...
Like I was living Lizbeth's adventure or was a close confidante of hers.
The author of this Book...
Is amazing. I have never read a book of hers that I didn't like and I'd guess that I've read over forty of her books. From Amazon: "Charlaine Harris is a New York Times bestselling author who has been writing for over thirty years. She was born and raised in the Mississippi River Delta area. She has written four series, and two stand-alone novels, in addition to numerous short stories, novellas, and graphic novels (cowritten with Christopher Golden). Her Sookie Stackhouse books have appeared in twenty-five different languages and on many bestseller lists. They’re also the basis of the HBO series True Blood. Harris now lives in Texas, and when she is not writing her own books, she reads omnivorously. Her house is full of rescue dogs."
I recommend this Book because...
