Summary of this DVD...
Made in 1965 and set in 1910, Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines is about an international London-to-Paris air race when aviation was still in its infancy.

As a publicity stunt for his newspaper, Lord Rawnsley, sets up the air race, although at the start of the race he complains, "The trouble with these international affairs is they attract foreigners."

The rivalries between the different countries' airmen lead to some very funny incidents such as a hot air balloon duel between France and Germany conducted with blunderbusses.

There is also rivalry for the affections of Lord Rawnsleys daughter, Patricia, between the English and American pilots along with the desperate attempts to win at all costs by Sir Percy Ware-Armitage who "never leaves anything to chance."

Further Comments...
A taste of Sir Percy Ware-Armitage's dastardly deeds -

Sir Percy Ware-Armitage (Terry Thomas): And I've arranged for the Frenchman to be detained by a lovely young lady.

Courtney (Eric Sykes): Ho, ho, guvnor, I'll bet she's a bit of all right.

Sir Percy Ware-Armitage: You should know, Courtney, she's your daughter.

Courtney: But guvnor, she's an innocent young girl.

Sir Percy Ware-Armitage: Not is, Courtney, WAS.
