Summary of this Book...

This book follows Jamie Morton, a boy as he grows up and how his life is impacted by a preacher man he knew as a child. Charles Jacob, the preacher, comes to a new town and his life and faith are shook by utter tragedy and he is forced out of town when Jamie is just a young boy.

Jamie grows up in the music business losing himself to drugs, as lots are, until one day he comes across a carnival with none other than a man who appears to be his old preacher doing parlor tricks with electricity.

Meeting Charles again changes Jamie’s life for both better and worse. He’s able to kick his addiction but at what cost? As Jamie delves into the life of Charles Jacobs he learns more than he ever cared to about the secrets he’s tapped into because they will change every life they touch, and not necessarily for the better.
This type of Book is good for...

This is a great book for those who want to delve into the darker side of psychology. The questions this plot brings up with healing and faith and what King shows us lies beyond really takes you for a dark mind trip.
I especially liked...

How flawed King made his characters. Even Jamie, the “hero” of the story, has lived a life no one would call perfect yet we’re left feeling human and capable.

Charles, the preacher starts of as such a perfect character and then is flawed by real-life tragedy and we can see where such a thing can bring a man to do such things as he does.
I didn't like...

There’s nothing I can say I didn’t like although I would have liked to explored the “other side” more, of course!
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...

I wanted to kick myself for not reading it sooner. I had made assumptions about this book even based on the inside flap and put off reading it for a long time. Once I read it it was not at all what I expected and I missed out enjoying a good story simply because telling any more about this story on the flap would give away the good secrets that make this book so great!! So be careful judging a book by its cover and blurb!
This Book made me feel...

Creeped out at the thought of the possibilities of what’s out there beyond death, beyond anything we know outside of life. The unknown is scary and yet intriguing. Let’s just hope it’s not like the world King showed us here!
The author of this Book...

King did a wonderful job bringing us into the life and world of the two main characters in this book. He managed to write a great story, with a great plot, and tied everything up in a pretty bow while at the same time not fully answering all the questions brought up by the plot. This is a hard feat to pull off and leave us feeling satisfied but he does a good job.
I recommend this Book because...

It really puts you in the thick of things. Many impossible lives moving forward in impossible ways and we’re driven by the curiosity of the end goal while being entertained by the side effects along the way without knowing where we’re headed.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you are easily insulted by negative talk about religious zealots than this may not be a good read for you. Though it appears to be at first glance, this story really isn’t about actual Faith and Religion it’s about exploring to find something beyond those beliefs. Some may be insulted by the path Charles Jacobs uses in this story to get what he wants.

It is just a story though and you shouldn’t let this deter you!
