Summary of this Book...
In this second book of the "final" Shannara series, the characters struggle to overcome the events at the end of the last book, while the invaders move forward with their plan for domination. The girl finds out that her brother not only escaped where he was being held, but is monstrously insane and murdered their parents. The druid, trapped "elsewhere" with nothing but a not-all-there dead guy for company, searches for a way to escape his prison before he fades away to nothing. The Blade tries to find the Wishsong girl so she can rescue the druid and they can have some chance of beating the invaders -- though he really doesn't get what's up with the princess leading those invaders. The princess leading the invasion force tries to manipulate her half-victory at the Druid Keep into something that won't lead to her father's displeasure. And the crazy boy wants to kill his sister. Yay.
Further Comments... | ||
This continues the story where the previous book left off, and it has many of the same issues and positives. An attempt to return to the more epic Shannara storylines of the past, without quite getting there. Unfortunately, for the second book, I thought it wasn't quite as good as it could have been, but it was better than nothing. Kind of felt like there was a "sagging middle" problem. Prediction: the author is going to have the calamity which the invaders are "relocating" from be caused by the Four Lands' use of diapson crystals, or something of that nature. (If that's the case, I'll be disappointed.)
