Summary of this Book...
This is about how colored women are treated in the south, and the amount of courage that it takes to try and make progress.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone. I think we live in a world that is backsliding into increasingly rampant racism, and we need more books about combating it.
I especially liked... | ||
The characterization. The characters that you were supposed to feel empathy for, you did. The characters you were supposed to hate, you did. There was only one character that I felt sort of mediocre about, and I think more of that had to do with her subplots than with her.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Do something positive. And write. When there are characters in a story who are writers, I always want to write, but seeing a character actually start to change her small corner of the world through her words made me want to do it to.
This Book made me feel...
Sad. It takes place in the past, but the views and attitudes in it are still too reflective of too many opinions today, and that did make me very sad.
I recommend this Book because...
I think it's important, but approached in an entertaining way. You don't feel like you're being preached at, but yet you learn or strengthen empathy along the way.
