Summary of this DVD... | ||
First of all, I love old movies. I was reading a Kindle biography of William Powell that led me to purchase this DVD. This is a really old one from the early 1930's. It is the only time that William Powell and Clark Gable acted together. They were friends in real life and endured some tragedies together. It is nice to see the easy way they interact. This movie was before their losses. William Powell eventually loved and lost my favorite actress of all time, Jean Harlow. Clark Gable lost Harlow (a close friend) then his wife and Powell's former wife, Carole Lombard in a plane crash. They were tied together by events in real life that were even more incredible than the characters' lives they created. But, this is before all that came to be. Historically, this movie is well known for the fact that John Dillinger was watching it at a theater right before he was gunned down by the F.B.I. He was allegedly a big fan of Myrna Loy. I love old movies. This one has a dopey plot, but some humor here and there. It's not a believable story, but it's kind of fun to watch if you like old filmed. What happened later to Gable and Powell (who were both married to Carole Lombard and who both adored Jean Harlow) would be unbelievable to most people, too. After I watched this, I bought a used biography of Myrna Loy. | ||
