I really wanted to like this book more than I did. I thought the worldbuilding and the premise were both really interesting and had a ton of potential, but very little of that potential was realized because the characters were just so... blah. Most of them were unsympathetic, cliched, and hard to root for, which really affected my enjoyment of the book. I initially picked up this book because I'm trying to check out the work of all the hosts and guest hosts of the Writing Excuses podcast, but I'm not sure I'm going to be checking out any other books by this author.
