The title of this book is terribly misleading. Its contents have nothing to do with French, except for the short section with the author’s own experience. On the other hand, the author does nothing to add to or disprove the tried-and-true methods of hard work, repetition, and immersion into a language, any language.

He also goes on to show how the human brain is wired and what language does to it and what it does with language. The only claim that he makes that I agree with is when he says every new language gives us the power to see and understand the world a bit better as he says, “your brain creates new areas for every new language.” He also believes in Noam Chomsky’s theory that all languages are already preprogrammed in the brain.

Then he adds to this claim by saying that no gene is there which singlehandedly builds language into the brain, but a multitude of genes are the ones who have done the programming. Music is one of those languages, according to this author. Accordingly, when a brain is motivated enough, it automatically switches into a rapid learning mode.

Following the same line of thought, he goes on to advise on living a proper lifestyle and even following a decent diet. The author may or may not be correct in his assumptions, and with some of them, he may well be telling what is good for his readers. Still, French has nothing to do with what he has written.

disappointed that an author would do what this one did. That is, get the attention of a reader with a gimmick and talk of something else.

It is a fake. And I probably never gave any book a one star.

I already know some French, however not fluently. When I saw the book, I thought maybe this author knew something I didn't. If anything, about learning a language, he praises all the tried-and-true methods. Then, forget French, but learning any language is only mentioned during the first half of the book. On the other hand, I agree with some of his unrelated advice.
