Summary of this Book...
All writing comments aside, I first want to applaud this writer’s humanity and her coming up with the brilliant premise of the Flawed series. To take individuals who are different from the rest and show their weaknesses and strengths is a noble, magnanimous approach to writing.

Empath{/i is a good book. It is well-written and the storytelling keeps the reader reading. Its characters are multi-faceted and are drawn according to the advice of most creative-writing teachers.

This good book could be an even better book, however, if the characterization could be deepened a bit more. I felt there were too many flawed characters in one place, which took the full attention away from the main character, Jade. The way I see it, four strangely flawed people competed for the reader’s attention, even if they supplemented one another in some scenes.

I thought if Jade would be the only one or at least one against a formidable enemy would be enough or even, Jade against Nathan would be good, too. Also, from my point of view, showing scenes maybe in flashback from Jade’s backstory —not just telling them--would add to her characterization. Still, Jade is a well-written character as all the others are.

The pacing of the novel is smooth, getting a bit faster toward the end, which is a good strategy in raising the suspense level. Then, the word choices, use of the language, and all other aspects come together to make this book a delightful paranormal, young-adult adventure. Even as an old person, I enjoyed reading it very much.

I especially liked...
the author's intention of supporting people with disabilities and differences and showing their strengths.
The n/a of this Book...
is Becca J. Campbell, who writes young adult college-age fiction. To date, she has published four books.
I recommend this Book because...
I found the premise and the idea of a character who was an empath interesting. Also, the plot moves in a way that some tension is there in just about every scene.
