Summary of this DVD... | ||
Based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, The Longest Ride follows two couples. Luke is a profession bull rider forging a comeback after an injury. Sophie is an Art major in college, getting ready to leave North Carolina and take an internship in New York. Luke and Sophie go on a date, and come across Ira, injured in a car accident and rush him to the hospital. Sophie rescues his box of love letters to Ira's late wife, Ruth. Sophie and Ira strike up a fast friendship as she visits him in the hospital, and through his letters and memories he tells her about his life with Ruth, and her love of art and all the paintings they bought together. The two couples stories begin to interweave. Luke finds a picture of Ira and Ruth in his truck and takes it the hospital to return in, running into Sophie again. They start dating and soon fall in love, but their different career paths become a problem for the young couple. Ruth and Ira's marriage had its bumps and bruises along the way, their love story intriguing Sophie even more. Ruth wanted a big family, but when Ira returned home from the war, he could no longer give her that. Ira ends his engagement with Ruth, but she wants Ira and fights for him. Sophie invites Luke to an art exhibition where they argue over something he said to her boss, and it looks like their new relationship may not work. Sophie visits Ira and learns more about his life with Ruth, giving her hope. Luke is injured again, and Sophie learns that he shouldn't be riding anymore, but Luke is determined to the win the title and ride the toughest bull. The couple break up when Luke cannot put Sophie above his career. Ira dies and his entire art collection is going to be auctioned off. He's left word to both Sophie and Luke to attend. Luke rides the bull and wins, but without Sophie there supporting him, he realizes that she means more than any ride. He rushed to the auction where Sophie is. A painting of Ruth by one of her former students is the first up on the auction block, but no one bids on it. Luke finally does, and is whisked away to pay for it as the auction takes a break. Sophie follows and the couple make up. They are brought back into the auction where Luke is asked if he paid for the Ruth portrait. Ira left a stipulation in his will that whoever bought the portrait of his wife, receives the entire collection. Sophie and Luke marry, and open an art museum dedicated to Ira and Ruth, with all of their paintings hanging proudly. | ||
