Serafina is an unusual girl who lives in the basement of Biltmore Estate, spending her time catching rats and watching the grand lives of the house's inhabitants. When a man in a mysterious black cloak starts kidnapping children, she resolves to stop him, even if it means revealing herself to the people above.

The charming Southern period vernacular used throughout the book; the exciting plot and good pace; the interesting characters.

There is at least one extremely unlikely coincidence which the author does not even attempt to explain.

Excited, a little emotional at the end.

Anyone who enjoys a good fantasy thriller should enjoy this book. I will be reading the next books in the series.
