Summary of this Book...
Reading this book was quite enjoyable for me, especially because of its characters, as the main characters Sarah and Spencer were portrayed with great skill. Both characters were real, believable, likable, and yet, scarred.

In the backstory, in a town in Cape Cod, Spencer, Sarah’s friend from their teenage years, had come to live with his uncle, the town’s villain with power, who physically abused him. Sarah, whose father was in the police force of the town had a better setup for she had a complete family, but only until she was fourteen. At that time, Sarah’s father was killed and the family fled the town.

The real story starts with Sarah grownup with a boyfriend named Nate, who she doesn’t love. She is intent on going back to Cape Cod to find out the truth behind her father’s killing. She also wonders about what happened to Spencer, who in their last meeting, cruelly broke her heart and bid her to go away.

When she manages to go back, she finds out that the villain-uncle has died of cancer and Spencer, as a musician, has a successful band. Writing more about the plot of the novel would be disservice to the reader, as the scenes are constructed with fluidity and the romance between the main characters is sprinkled with undertones of mystery and suspense and with a horde of unresolved issues.

The writing is lively with numerous secondary characters thrown in the mix and the wonderful use of the language that neither condescends nor is too light. I had a bit of a problem in one point of the plot construction only. In the beginning, the reader was promised a deep dark secret as to Sarah’s father’s demise and the way the family fled the town. At the end, that drama felt fizzled out to me. In other words, the secret could have been stronger.

Still, the writing style, character construction, scenes, setting, language, etc. are absolutely awesome, and I definitely would like to read this author’s other novels.
