Summary of this Book...
A bonnet lady is what they called her, but she just called herself confused about the word of God. She knew it well, of course, but she just couldn't justify some things like prostitutes, alcohol, and gambling to herself. She has a younger brother and sister with her when she was stranded in San Francisco, California. Their father died on the journey over. They were stranded and didn't have anywhere to turn except into the arms of a gambler who caused her to question everything she thought she knew about her faith, the bible, and herself.
Her brother and sister were lost her and she was on her own. What was she going to do? She would never give up on them and never return without them, but they didn't want her help or want her in their lives. They thought her a hypocrite and a prude and she thought them young and ignorant of the world and sucked in by its madness. She was desperate and desperate people do desperate things.

This type of Book is good for...
Anyone interested in historical fiction, romance, insects and trees, California's gold rush history, or Christianity. This book speaks of the struggles of understanding the bible and its meaning on topics of prostitution, gambling, and drinking.
I especially liked...
The struggles of understanding the bible and its meaning on topics of prostitution, gambling, and drinking.
I didn't like...
How the sister never learned her lesson, but you can't win them all.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
Read another book by her, which I did.
This Book made me feel...
More knowledgeable about the history of California's gold rush. I didn't know anything before.
The n/a of this Book...
Has a true talent for writing about historical events. Not in detail, but enough surface events to make it a very interesting book.
I recommend this Book because...
It is such a good read. It will have you turning page after page until you have it read in a day or two.
Further Comments...
I just stumbled upon this author the other day quite by accident and I am glad that I did. There is another group on WDC that recommends books and I believe I heard about her through them, so I am a fan of sites like these where you learn about new books. I really appreciate this service.
