Tory Brennan lives on Morris Island with her father, a researcher on the nearby Loggerhead Island. When Tory and her fellow islanders stumble onto a murder case, 30yrs cold, they find themselves suddenly under attack.
Throw in a rescue wolfdog exposed to a designer version of the canine parvovirus that has the capacity to jump host species, and Tory and her friends are in a lot of trouble.

Primarily aimed at YA, the Virals series are a cleaner, simplified version of Reichs Temperance Brennan novels and as such, would appeal to a lot of forensic/crime readers, looking for something a bit lighter.

Tory's internal monologue; witty, sarcastic and self-depreciating, and exactly like a teenage Temperance.

The whole trading off Temperance's name. Sure Tory is supposed to be her great-neice, but the supernatural vibe grates against the slick science of Temperance.

Is an anthropologist herself, so Reichs knows her stuff and gives her characters a strong show'n'tell attitude.
