Summary of this Book...
A ceramist creates what he thinks is the perfect ceramic mouse -- except that it isn't. It has ears like a rabbit and no tail. That night, when the clock strikes thirteen, Manxmouse comes to life and runs away. What follows are his adventures -- hilarious, poignant and thought provoking. And of course, all culminating with the ultimate threat -- his meeting with the Manx Cat.
This type of Book is good for...
Teenagers and above to read independently, parents of younger kids to read with their kids. The book and review have to be rated 13+ due to the references to drunkenness in the beginning, and a few bits dealing with death later on. Most of it is suitable for younger kids, too.
I especially liked... | ||
The way this page-turner also has you stopping to think every now and then! It's an adventure story that has you dwelling on the human characteristics of kindness, greed, courage, arrogance ... and a whole lot more.
I didn't like... | ||
I have an older edition which is illustrated. I wish this edition had been illustrated, too.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Recommend it to everyone I know! (Incidentally, JK Rowling has said that it influenced her writing.)
This Book made me feel...
This might sound cliched -- but it did make me feel warm and fuzzy. It also made me understand the importance of courage and determination.
The author of this Book...
If I am forced to name ONE favourite author, I name Paul Gallico. He has written several books on unusual themes. However, even though I'm a total Gallico fan, I do admit that there are one or two of his books that aren't up to scratch.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a story at one level, and a philosophical exploration at another level.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Well, it is a quintessential feel-good tale, and some may find it simple, in a negative way.
Further Comments... | ||
This book is really, really beautiful.
