This book is based on a romantic couple in the Elizabethan period , it is a old fashioned love story about a woman named Lady Eleanor and a man named William Lacey , William a lord who has recently taken over he's fathers duties must marry a wealthy woman for the sake of saving he's childhood home . where as Ellie our main character must improve her families fortune by earning favour with the Queen through her writing . both characters fate is entwined when Will meets the gorgeous Ellie and they must both choose loyalty or love .

The character detail Eve Edwards put into the book , Ellie is by far my favirate heiroin she is fiery , opiniatied but loyal at the same time . the author really built up the layers of Ellies personality so that you really hope her fortunes approve . I loved the main theme of the book or the hidden theme like an easter egg on a dvd , this theme is gold and the value of it as Ellie's father is an alchemist most of he's dialogue is about the wonder of gold and how he hopes to achieve this . In the end the last section of the book is about the value of Ellie and the symmetry of the ending of Ellie's ending is beautiful as it shows you the true value of both gold and the people you love. The book from start to finish was beautiful so well written with lots of old sayings and descriptions its the perfect book to curl up with on a dull evening . the ending i adored i loved the chemistry between Ellie and Will , especially the hidden meeting they had throughout the book the twist at the end was expected but executed really well .

actually not much i didn't enjoy about this book , it was written so well that I've read it 4 times since . I loved the way the characters changed throughout the book .The only thing i didn't like was how it spent a bit to long on the catholic revolution between the time of Bloody Mary and Elizabeth the first ,but i guess that had to be covered .

Read it again , it was such a beautiful book and really transported you to the time . It made you think and relate to the characters no matter what part of the story they played . The ending was amazing i loved the way the book led up to the ending .

like reading the second one , i haven't been able to locate it but i wish to know what happens to Jane and James Wills brother . this book inspired me to create a story based in that time called the Velvet loyalty .

Eve Edwards - such a talented writer i look forward to reading more of her work.

it was just such a easy book to read , no boring chapters or pointless dialogue, but a lovely detailed book that took you back to the Elizabethan period and into a romantic story that is one of the best romances i have read about.

if your not into period books this isn't the book for you , it had a lot of historical references and if history is something you don't want to read about then this book wouldn't be very good .
