Summary of this Book...
This is a biography of the most trusted man in news for a few generations of Americans. It was written by noted historian, Douglas Brinkley, who also wrote, The Great Deluge". This was very thorough and I learned a lot about Walter Cronkite that I didn't know before.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who is interested in the times from WWII until the 80's when Walter Cronkite was the go-to guy for all the breaking news.
I especially liked... | ||
the information about Walter Cronkite's relationships with President Kennedy (less than cordial at times) and Dan Rather. He despised Dan Rather and never got over it, but it was interesting in that Walter Cronkite treated Edward R. Murrow the same way that Dan Rather treated him - disrespectfully.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
read something different. THis was a long, long book.
This Book made me feel...
like I have a better picture of Walter Cronkite than I did before. I didn't know a lot about him. I just knew my parents trusted him to tell the truth.
The author of this Book...
thoroughly researched his subject.
I recommend this Book because...
Walter Cronkite was a very interesting man in unusual times. The 1960's have always fascinated me and he was the voice of America in the 60's before there was any internet.
