Summary of this Book...
I saw this book in the library. It gave me the idea that, for WdC writers who can draw and are interested in fine arts, Manga could be a new avenue for putting to use their writing and drawing skills together. In the last few years, Manga is being taken more seriously by genre writers, such as Dean Koontz and Janet Evanovich. I am sure other serious writers are opening up to it, but these two are the ones that came to my mind.

After checking with Amazon, I saw that the book is difficult to find on sale. Even when available, the new edition costs about 22 dollars, but Amazon has second-hand book sellers who sell this book for around 12 dollars. For all the teaching in it, I think it is well worth the money for those who may be interested. The book is in paperback and has 190 large (10"x 14"- my guess) pages, with each page full of several drawings and introductions.

In the introduction of the book, it is stated that the book teaches the basics of drawing and gaining familiarity with the different Manga techniques. Inside its contents are: Materials and Usage, Creating Manga, Drawing People and Animals, Manga techniques, Greenery and Dimensional Objects, Creating Well-Composed Manga, Inner and Outer Margins, Background Lines, Perspective, Masking, Tracing, Creating New Characters for Publication Submission, Exaggerating People and Animals, Cut and Paste, Collecting Reference Material.

Basing on my experience with art that includes a two-year art school, I found the materials needed are very close to those used in black and white rendering and ink drawing. Even most of the teaching is similar, especially those concerning the dimensions of human face, form, and action. The directions are very easy to follow and the sketches do a good job of teaching how to draw.

I believe if one can study this book thoroughly, one can begin writing and creating Manga for profit.
This type of Book is good for...
learning how to draw Manga.
I especially liked...
The sketches and the step-by-step instructions especially for a Manga beginner.
The author of this Book...
is Angel Matsumoto who has several other drawing books for Manga.
I recommend this Book because...
it will open up a new avenue of profit for writers who are artistically inclined.
