Summary of this Book...
This is the story of Hurricane Katrina as told less than a year after it happened. It is powerful and upsetting. The most striking thing is that the LSPCA evacuated its animals in an efficent and timely manner to Houston so all of them were saved. If only the people had been treated half as compassionately as those animals, it would have been a different story.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who wants a gloves off analysis of what happened and who did what in Hurricane Katrina. No politicians come off well in this, except the ones in Texas and other states who welcommed the survivors with open arms and hearts.
I especially liked... | ||
the way he goes after the politicians. Democrats and Republicans all come off as the slimy weasels they seem to be.
I didn't like... | ||
some of the excusing of Governor Blanco's actions. I don't know why he does this, but it is obvious that she was incompetent and that incompetence cost lives.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
cry. It will make you so sad and then so proud of some of the youngest survivors. There is a six year old boy who took care of his infant sibling and held it together on his own for a long time. He did better than the President, Governor and Mayor of N.O. put together.
This Book made me feel...
most angry at the police in New Orleans who became thugs and the politicians who should be held to criminal liability for their malfeasance. Just shocking.
The author of this Book...
is surprisingly fair given his left left left leanings that I have seen on MSNBC and NBC.
I recommend this Book because...
it is powerful and moving and gave me some of the answers I was afraid to seek. I have had the book for 4 years and just now was able to bring myself to read it. It is long and it is extremely upsetting.
Further Comments... | ||
I want to read George W. Bush's book for his side, but this book convinced me to get it used. I do not want to add one penny to that man's net worth if I can help it after reading this shocking chronicle. What a disgrace the government was from the top down.
