This is a book about relationships between neighbors and cousins in a small town. It is about values and judments, betrayal and incredible kindness. It takes place in Ireland and is a romance in a sense, but it is more a commentary on human behavior and its consequences.

tells a wonderful story with well drawn characters that I came to care about.

it is an engrossing read. I couldn't stop reading and it is a pretty long book. I cared about the characters, particularly Heather, Oliver and Noreen.

This is one of Patricia Scanlan's best books.

This book was a #1 best seller in Ireland when I was there in early 2004. Patricia Scanlan is a wonderful storyteller who knows how to write about characters and their relationships in modern Ireland.
