A collection of short stories, information about what makes a story and how different elements are used, commentaries/essays from different authors, and a glossary.

Anyone who loves reading, is looking to become a better writer, and/or anyone who wants to sample many different authors and methods.

The author bios before each story made all the difference to me. In a regular book you may get a bio at the very end, but not always. With this book you were given some background on every author before you read the story. And many of them also had commentaries at the back of the book. This allows you to read the stories, meet the people who wrote them, and sometimes get an insight onto why they write what they write, how they staretd, and advise for anyone wishing to follow the same path.

I'm using the book for a Modern Literature class so we'll talk about different methods and then read stories that fit those methods... the book itself, however, does not sepperate itself that way so if I had to dislike something I'd choose to dislike the fact that you can't read about a methods and then read stories that use that method unless you're taking the class.

I had a greater desire to read. Anything, everything, I just wanted to read and look deeper into what I was reading.

It varied. Happy, sad, silly...

The Authors did a great job and took advantage of the meterials available to them. They collected stories from different cultures within America and never limited themselves.

It was very informative and enjoyable.

It's used as a text book... be warned.

I thought this book was enjoyable and though there were a few stories I didn't like, there was so many that I really loved. This is a great book to read if you need a new book or have writer's block.
